Hi everyone. Like just about everyone else, I adore Pinterest. But every
so often I challenge myself to step away from my pinning and actually try one
of the projects myself.
As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve been doing a ton of
painting lately {see here and here}. And since our basement and other storage areas are a bit of a
disaster, it was hard to find my painting supplies, and even more difficult to
identify what paint I already had and what I needed to buy. Once you’ve used
some paint in a can, the label gets covered in paint and it’s just a big ol’
mess.
I thought that getting a handle on our bits of leftover
paints would be a great way to kick-start organizing the basement a bit. I’ve
been crushing on Mason jars lately anyway {see this post}, so I thought I'd try my hand at a project Jen from I
Heart Organizing posted on using Mason jars to leftover paint storage.

I snagged two different sizes since I’d have varying amounts
of leftover paint. Plus, I figured any extra jars I could use for fun decorating projects.
So I started out by just taking stock of what paints we had laying around. I pitched some paints that were clearly too old to use again. Like the exterior paint for our last house...from 13 years ago! I ended up with quite the pile.
And then, I went a little label crazy. I picked up these 2-inch circle labels from Avery and used their online template to make a design and write out each paint's color name and finish (eggshell, matte, semi-gloss, etc.).
Later that day, on a trip down to the basement, I caught site of the empty paint cans that I left to fully dry out before we throw them away. Maybe I'll zoom in on this pic and make a modern art piece? Who knows, but I thought it looked cool.

They turned out so great! So happy you were able to use the idea! Hope you love them as much as I do!
